County Executive Gardner Appoints Jarman to Board of Education

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced her appointment of Dr. Lois Jarman to fill an unexpired term on the Frederick County Board of Education. The vacancy was created when Dr. Ken Kerr resigned his Board of Education position on Dec. 19, 2018, after being elected to serve as the 3B Delegate to the Maryland General Assembly.

“I am pleased to appoint Lois Jarman to the Board of Education,” Executive Gardner said. “Lois is passionate about education. She is a strong leader, an outstanding communicator, and has a variety of experience with Frederick County Public Schools and throughout our community.”

A resident of Knoxville, Md., Dr. Jarman has an extensive background in education, both as a teacher and an administrator. She received her doctorate of professional studies in organizational leadership from Shenandoah University. She is currently employed as the Director of International Affairs at Shepherd University. Dr. Jarman’s credentials are similar to those of Dr. Kerr, both of whom have worked in public K-12 schools and in higher education. Dr. Jarman will continue the work done by Dr. Kerr, advocating for many of the same priorities and communities.

Applicants for the nomination were solicited through a public process following Dr. Kerr’s election to the General Assembly. A total of 27 letters of interest and résumés were received and carefully reviewed for consideration.
