Cold Weather Is Finally Here, and WHS Students Are Not Happy About It!
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Sarah Grace McElwain
December was a bad month for all of the winter lovers out there. With seventy degree weather on Christmas, many people were unhappy. While their sweaters collected dust, their shorts got to see the light of day.
Now with the new year, comes the cold weather. Winter is finally here! So far this year the temperature has dipped below freezing almost every day since January 1st. Gone are the days of sun and warmth. The El Niño has passed and our average temperatures are back on track.
With temperatures between 15 and 45 degrees over the past week, there is no doubt that the warm weather is behind us, at least for now. There has also been a slight chance of snow lately, a 2% chance at the most, but a chance, nonetheless.
Now it is time to turn the heat back on and pull out the warm clothes. It finally feels likes winter so make some hot chocolate and settle down under your warmest blankets. Students at Walkersville High School all have different opinions on the arrival of winter weather.
Some are pleased at the possibility of snow, while other are already missing the warm weather. Many are also frustrated with the fact that it has been so cold but Walkerville has not seen a single snowflake (although we finally saw a few flakes last night – January 12th!)
Freshmen Jordan Yingling said, “I hate it so much. Cold weather is awful.” Some students would rather sweat everyday versus freeze everyday.
Junior Nicole Dailey said, “Cold weather stinks.” Agreeing with her, junior Nadine Kuster said, “I hate the cold.”
So as it turns out, most Walkersville students can not stand the cold. I was not able to find anyone that liked the cold weather, but if you are one of those that do, congratulations. Everyone else is miserable.
If you do like the warm weather better, spring is still two months away, but do not worry you are not alone. For now, just bundle up and hope for snow days.
