Art Teacher Christine Stovall Preparing to Leave WHS for Brunswick High

The time has come, the time that Christine Stovall departs from the world of WHS art world and into the Brunswick High territory. Beloved teacher Stovall started her art career as being an art therapist at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She helped mentally ill patients by using her love of art and the different techniques that are involved. As she entered WHS, Stovall started by teaching drawing, painting, and ceramics at WHS. As a former teacher left, she dropped drawing and painting and took up the world of photoshop. She has been teaching both ever since.

Even though she is departing from WHS, Stovall plans to continue her membership at the TAG Art Gallery in downtown Frederick. She has been a member for nine years. TAG is an artist owned gallery at which they can display their art. To be in the gallery, you must be selected to join. Every year she has a one person show, and every month she has a new piece displayed at the gallery. This keeps Stovall focused on her art and her passion for sharing her insights. There is a group show at the gallery this month.

Do not fear, Stovall with be back next year! She will be back part time here and part time at Brunswick, making a full time job. This will be her 25th year teaching. “After my 25th year, I am considering retirement,” said Stovall. “My absence will affect the art department, because there will be higher numbers in each class and it is going to be hard on the teachers and the students,” she continued.

Although she continues to keep living in Frederick, Stovall will be leaving Walkersville with arms wide open to see what artistic adventures Brunswick may bring. Through ceramics, drawing and painting, and photography, Stovall has given the students at Walkersville art in their hearts and smiles on their faces.
