Key Club held its annual pumpkin smash today on Friday November 4th during flex classes. Admission cost $1 and the proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network. Not only was the event smashing but you also got the opportunity to do something much more exciting than homework during flex.

“It was pretty awesome, I liked it way better than sitting inside the classroom working on homework. It’s good for students to get outside too,” said freshman Peyton Vance.

“I unfortunately did not get to attend but it looked like a lot of fun,” senior Enrique Figueroa.

Key Club is always looking to help out the community and come up with fun activities for students at Walkersville High School. In the past they have done many fundraisers like Harmony for Hope, Tabs for Charity, and Alex’s Million Mile fundraiser and this was no exception. “It’s super exciting because you only have to pay a dollar and all of the money earned goes to the children’s miracle network and it’s a lot of fun for students,” said senior Harshi Patel.

Some teachers got in on the fun as well adding to the excitement. “Last year I was so disappointed I couldn’t go because I had a flex class to run, so this year I bought tickets for everyone in my flex class; it’s worth it but I’m disappointed there is no trebuchet like last year,” said English teacher Jessica Bowers. Many people at the game were decked out in blue and gold shirts showing off their school spirit.

This was a great start to the day leading up to the much anticipated Friday football game Walkersville vs Middletown. “Key Club is great for doing fundraisers and they come up with fun ways to raise money for our school like the pumpkin smash,” said senior Nadine Kuster.   .

Overall, it was a fun time had by all and approximately $130 was raised.
