JumpStart Grants Support Diverse Selection of Small Businesses, Agriculture

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner announced that 1,179 applications were received for the Frederick County JumpStart grant program. A total of $5 million is being awarded to small businesses and full-time farmers who were impacted by the pandemic. Applications for grants were received from 449 women-owned businesses, 232 minority-owned, and 73 veteran-owned.  Applicants who received letters announcing their award have until 5 p.m. Monday, June 22, to complete the final paperwork needed so that the grants can be deposited directly into businesses’ bank accounts. County Executive Gardner Advances Legislation to Support Family Farms

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today unveiled legislation to support multi-generational farming. The bill creates a more transparent process for farmers who want to follow the longstanding tradition of carving off housing lots on their property so family members can stay on the farm and support the farm operation. Current law allows children of farmers to apply for a waiver of an impact fee if they build on these lots. Frederick County Health Metrics Improve: County Moves to Stage 2 of Recovery Plan

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced key improvements in several key health measures related to COVID-19.  The rate of people testing positive for COVID-19 has dropped to 8.4%, below the statewide average. Hospital statistics have significantly improved, with declines in overall hospitalizations, intensive care unit beds, and acute care bed counts. Results from nursing home staff and residents are showing lower infection rates than anticipated, including one that had no positive cases.
