This summer, Walkersville area non-profits, volunteers, and churches will provide food and activities for area youth. The Summer Outreach of Walkersville Area Churches holds the activities at Discovery Community Center and Creamery Park. The Summer Outreach of Walkersville Area Churches (SOWAC) heads into its sixth summer of programs for youths 18 and younger. Kids enjoy a healthy lunch, games, and crafts with adult supervision. Last summer, Creamery Park averaged 22 children in daily attendance, and Discovery averaged 40 children. Wild Storms Wallop Glade Valley

Tuesday afternoon turned quite scary weather-wise. Storms brought severe lightning, hail, and damaging winds. Many residents reported downed trees. Crum Road was closed for hours due to approximately ten telephone poles being blown over. A tree on Biggs Ford Road fell damaging the roof of a front porch on one home. Hail pelted many locations. The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission met on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The meeting covered several subjects after minutes from three previous meetings were approved. The commission held a public hearing on Ordinance 2014-02 Minimum Lot Size – Mixed Use Lots in Old Town Mixed Use District. As reported earlier this week, this ordinance only effected one property, the Walkersville Market building on Maple Avenue. The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company has released its schedule for the 75th Annual Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company Carnival. The carnival runs Monday, June 30th through Saturday, July 5th. There will be three “Ride All Night” specials during the week. Those nights will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Walkersville Carnival Ride-All-Night Pre-Sale

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company announces the Pre-Sale Dates for Ride-All-Night tickets. Tickets will cost $12 instead of $25 the night of the special. Ride-All-Night will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. on June 30th, July 2nd, and July 4th. Pre-Sale Tickets can be purchased on the following dates: June 21st 9:00 – 12:00 June 22nd 13:00 – 15:00 June 28th 9:00 – 12:00 at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company’s Carnival Grounds. Tickets can also be purchased by mail using this form.
