Frederick County Health Metrics Improve: County Moves to Stage 2 of Recovery Plan
Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced key improvements in several key health measures related to COVID-19. The rate of people testing positive for COVID-19 has dropped to 8.4%, below the statewide average. Hospital statistics have significantly improved, with declines in overall hospitalizations, intensive care unit beds, and acute care bed counts. Results from nursing home staff and residents are showing lower infection rates than anticipated, including one that had no positive cases. Executive Gardner Reintroduces Initiatives to Protect Forest Cover, Environmental and Historic Resources
County Executive Jan Gardner today reintroduced two initiatives to protect Frederick County’s forests, environmental resources, and historic and cultural assets. The first legislative initiative strengthens the County’s Forest Resource Ordinance to protect existing forest and ensure no net loss of forest as the result of new development. The second proposal amends the county zoning ordinance to require consideration and protection of forest, environmentally sensitive areas, and historic assets before a property can be rezoned. Changes to Alert FC
As of June 1, 2020, Frederick County’s emergency text alert service will change how it delivers long messages. Longer text messages will no longer be received in their entirety or across multiple text messages. Instead, a text will include a web link to the entire message. The change is a result of new formatting from Everbridge, the vendor who provides the Division of Emergency Management’s AlertFC service. The Frederick County Division of Planning & Permitting is pleased to announced the Temporary Outdoor Seating Application for Restaurants and Food Service Establishments is now live. Included in the application is the State of Maryland guidelines for Best Practices for Businesses to Reopen Restaurants.
