WHS Golf Team Improves to 7 and 4 – Mario Miller Qualifies for States
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Ben Johnson
With only three matches remaining in the season, the WHS golf team will look to continue on their renewed success. Through the first 11 matches, the Lions hold a record of seven wins and four losses.
At this point in the season the Lions leading scorers are senior Mario Miller with a 40.0 stroke average, freshman Sam Driscoll with a 41.8 stroke average and sophomore Matthew Miller with a 43.0 stroke average.
Also, Mario Miller has qualified for the state golf tournament to be held at the University of Maryland at the end of October. In the district golf tournament, he shot an 18 hole score of 78 which was good enough to put him in eighth place.
Coach Bruce Zimmerman is happy with the team’s progress through the year saying “The team has exceeded my expectations for the season. We have a very young team and we have been competitive in all of our matches.” Let’s hope the Lions can build off their strong performance this year and compete for the state title in the years to come.
