Walkersville Middle School Addresses Rumors

Mills Custom Wood Floors

Walkersville Middle School principal, Stacey Hiltner sent a message out to families via e-mail this evening to address the many rumors swirling through Glade Valley in classrooms, in neighborhoods, and online today.

Many students discussed threats made by one student about “shooting up the school.” By the end of the day, students were claiming that a gun was found in a locker and the student had been removed from school.

Mrs. Hiltner dismissed parts of those rumors, but thanked students for reporting the threats in the following statement.

Dear WMS Families,

We have learned that a Walkersville Middle School student was threatening to harm others at school tomorrow. Please be assured that the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and WMS staff worked quickly to investigate the matter. We determined that there was no real threat to our school or students. I ask that you help control the spread of false information and rumors on social media. WMS is a great school community; we look forward to welcoming students and staff to school as normal tomorrow morning.

Please advise your child that it is important to report threatening speech, behavior or bullying to a trusted adult at school. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Working together we will maintain the great learning environment we’ve built at WMS. We extend many thanks to the students who immediately reported their concerns to our staff and all who do excellent work here every day.

Sincerely,

Stacey Hiltner, Principal
