Walkersville Carnival Success

chadweddleDuring the Walkersville Town Meeting last week, Commissioner Chad Weddle reported the success of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company’s Carnival earlier this month. Commissioner Weddle also serves as a volunteer for the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company, and could be heard making announcements during the carnival.

News of the carnival’s success came in the preliminary revenue numbers. Gross revenue is preliminarily $259,707. This represents an increase of $26,322 or 11.3% compared to 2014’s carnival.

DSC_0014Ride ticket sales were $94,882. This also represents a significant increase of $10,211 or 12.1% compared to the 2014 ticket sales. The fire company keeps a percentage of the ticket sales for the rides.

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company relies on this income to maintain its fleet of emergency vehicles and equipment.  The fire company is 100% volunteer. The volunteers work hard to organize a successful carnival to keep from taking county tax dollars and to keep the county fire tax low.
