The US Open is one of the biggest tennis events of the year that started on August 25th and ended September 8th. The Finals are the most important games, as the others (semifinals, quarterfinals, etc.) lead up to it.

This year, for the first time in eleven years, the men’s finals did not include a player from the Big Four, which consists of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. The men’s singles match was between Marin Cilic of Croatia and Kei Nikishori of Japan. Had he won, Nikishori would’ve been the first Japanese player to win the U.S. Open in over 80 years. Cilic won in three straight sets.

For the women’s doubles, this is the sixth time Serena Williams was the champion. She defeated Dutch player, Caroline Wozniacki.

As for doubles, men’s consisted of the Bryan brothers, Robert and Michael, and partners, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez. Women’s partners Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina from Russia defeated Martina Hingis (Swiss) and Flavia Pennetta (Italian).

There were some definite surprises this year for all four final matches.
