Stolen Vehicle Recovered Followed By Foot Chase; Walkersville Resident Arrested

On Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 at approximately 7:40 a.m., a Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling west on Schifferstadt Boulevard approaching the red light to East Church Street in Frederick when a white four-door Infiniti G53 sedan was observed approaching the intersection traveling north on East Church Street at a high rate of speed and stopping abruptly at the light.

A Deputy continued to follow the vehicle after it made a left turn onto Schifferstadt Boulevard. After confirming the registration of the vehicle, it was determined to be a stolen vehicle from Frederick city outstanding for the past 3 weeks. The vehicle began to increase its speed before making an abrupt left onto Mohican Drive, at which time the Deputy initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle then made an abrupt right turn onto Mohican Court and came to an immediate halt but was still slow rolling. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle immediately exited and began fleeing on foot to the rear of the residence in front of which they had halted.

A perimeter was set for a search and multiple units from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick Police Department, and Maryland State Police responded to the scene to assist in the search. Both suspects were seen in the wooded area near the water treatment plant adjacent to North Market Street, however when multiple units began to converge on that location both suspects began to flee again on foot heading northeast. Both suspects were then seen crossing the Monocacy River multiple times into the wooded area and back, and then seen running alongside a chain link fence. A short time later, one suspect was apprehended in the area of Monocacy Boulevard and Frederick Brick Works but the remaining suspect had yet to be located.

Soon after, a Deputy was conducting a patrol check in the area of Discovery Boulevard in Walkersville when an individual matching the suspect’s description was seen outside of a residence in the 8500 block of Discovery Boulevard. The Deputy also recognized this individual due to active warrants that had been out for his arrest prior to this incident. He was identified as Ja’Von Antoine Bey, 18, of Walkersville. Bey’s clothes and shoes were wet, muddy, ripped in some places, and he was still sweating heavily.

Bey was transported to the Frederick County Law Enforcement Center for questioning, where he confessed to driving the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Bey was then transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.
