Rock Creek School and New Use of former T.R. Saylor Site to be Heard at Planning Commission Meeting

On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, the Walkersville Planning Commission will hold its monthly Public Hearing at 7:30 p.m. in Walkersville’s Town Hall.

The ROCK CREEK SCHOOL site plan has been postponed to an April Workshop on April 9, 2019 and Public Hearing on April 23, 2019.

Two site plans will be considered by the Planning Commission.

The first will be a new use of the former T.R. Saylor Hardware Store at 15 Main Street. Victoria Baker, owner of J’s Bargain Appliances plans to move her business to the property. As a new use in the Old Town Mixed Use District, the Planning Commission must approve the use.

The second item will be a revised site plan from Frederick County Public Schools for their proposeal to build a new Rock Creek School on the same property as Walkersville Middle School. This is a continuance of discussions the Planning Commission had during a Public Hearing in January. At that hearing, the Planning Commission and residents raised concerns on a wide range of topics. The school system agreed to revise their plans.

The Walkersville Planning Commission invites public comments on agenda items in accordance with the Commission’s Rules of Procedure; public comments are taken after the staff report and applicant presentation, and limited to five minutes per individual.
