Planning Commission Meeting on Spring View Estates and Walkers Village Shopping Center

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.

The Planning Commission will review final plats for Spring View Estates’ open space; the development plans for over 30 acres of open space and community gardens. Spring View Estates, a development formerly identified as the Bell Farm, began construction of homes earlier this year after several years of grading and site preparation. The development situated between Woodsboro Pike and Fountain Rock Road shares an entrance with Walkersville Elementary and High Schools. The approved development plan consists of 102 new homes which are advertised to start in the mid-$400,000 price range.

Representatives from Walkers Village Shopping Center will continue discussions with the Planning Commission on proposed changes to the Town’s Code to allow a larger monument sign for the property. The owner of the shopping center applied for a permit to erect a sign that went before the Walkersville Board of Appeals, but failed to obtain a waiver to the Town’s Code. In recent months, they have asked for guidance from the Planning Commission to address their needs due to the set-back required by Maryland State Highway Administration for future widening of Woodsboro Pike.

The Planning Commission allows public comments on agenda items. Public comments are taken after staff reports, and an applicant’s presentation. Public comments are limited to five minutes per individual.
