For the first time in the program’s history, Mississippi State is ranked the number one college football team in the country.

The Bulldogs have started the 2014 season with a 6-0 record with wins coming against three top ten teams at the time; LSU, Auburn, and Texas A&M.  Mississippi State has been one of the most impressive teams so far this year, dominating their SEC opponents with relative ease.  They are led by junior Quarterback Dak Prescott who through the first half of the season is a Heisman Trophy candidate.  If the Bulldogs keep piling on the wins then Prescott would be almost a sure thing to take the coveted award.

Mississippi State had a bye last week but in their remaining six games only two will be against ranked opponents (Alabama and Ole Miss).  Those two games, however, look to be very difficult as they are both on the road and both are more than a match for the Bulldogs.  There is also a potential trap game next week when Mississippi State travels to Lexington to take on the underrated Kentucky Wildcats.

Mississippi State has never in their history had success like this, and if they keep their head on straight they have a very good chance at winning the national title.
