Lion Mascot Shares His Secrets for School Spirit
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Annie Moreno
A lion is said to symbolize courage, strength, and overcoming difficulties. Students at Walkersville High School discuss the School Mascot, the lion!
Students share why they feel that the mascot is an important part of the school. Freshman Kathy Krantz says that the mascot is important to our school because “During the games they can be funny, and get the crowd more into the game.”
Junior Zack Henigin says “It represents our school spirit.”
Freshman Noah Sadler says “Everyone cheers when he puts up his make noise sign.”
Disguised as the Walkersville High School mascot is freshman Josh Keeran. Keeran says that he became the mascot because his friends, senior Gage Robertson and senior Maia Harper, inspired him to go for it. He then went to the Cheerleading Coach, Tina Pennington, who told him that he could be the school mascot.
Keeran shares that to get people pumped up during games “I do stupid dances like the running man, and I keep the fans up when we’re losing.” Keeran says that his favorite cheer is “The Lion’s Rumble.” Keeran says “I like when I get to do a thigh stand, and the cheerleaders lift me up.” To see through the Lion costume, Keeran says that you have to “look through the mouth.”
