Leadership Club Focuses on Fighting Hunger
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Miranda Secula
Sally Hoague, Arlene Lloyd, and Judy Pickens have been working hard to fight hunger.
This year at Walkersville High School, it is the “Twenty Sixth Annual Harvest for the Hungry Food Drive-Kids Helping Kids.” The food that WHS collects goes directly to Glade Valley Food Kitchen.
A lot of Americans struggle to get food every day. This year, fifteen classes are helping with the food collection. Not only that, but the winning class gets a prize.
The club chair, Richard Putman, junior, does a lot of work for this food drive. He has multiple responsibilities.
When interviewed, Putman gave the following responses:
Q: “How do you like being in charge of the food drive so far?”
A: “It’s been doing [well]. We’ve got lots of people who signed up. We’ve got lots of food already.”
Q: “What’s it like being the club chair, as in, what are your responsibilities?”
A: “The chair has to make decisions about who’s going to be on it, who’s going to be helping out, and where you’re going to put the boxes…”
Q: “Do you plan to do something like this again in the future?”
A: “Yeah we’re going to do this every year plus after I leave, they’ll probably do it again and again.”
In order to help fight hunger, you can donate food for the Glade Valley Food Kitchen. The food drive ends on October 15th. Every little bit helps!
