Girls Soccer Ends Season with 2-1 Loss to Williamsport

WHS Lions Pride Original Story:

by Ben Johnson

On October 23rd, The Lady Lions soccer team played the Williamsport Wildcats in round one of the playoffs and lost by a score of 2-1 to end their season.

Williamsport got on the board first with a goal at the fifteen minute mark, but Walkersville was able to respond very quickly with a goal from sophomore Maddie Sorrel assisted by junior Alyssa Neher.  With the goal the score was now all tied up at one apiece.  Both defenses were able to hold the opposing offenses at bay for the remainder of the half.

Both teams were not able to generate any offense throughout much of the second half as again both defenses played flawlessly.  But about thirty minutes into the second half Williamsport was able to put one through the net to give them a 2-1 lead with about ten minutes to go.

Following the goal the Lady Lions were able to work the ball down the field and eventually ended up with a corner kick. But unfortunately, the Williamsport goalie caught the kick and the Wildcats were able to run out the clock from there.

The Lady Lions finished the season with a record of 4 wins, 7 losses and one tie which is an improvement over last year.  Hopefully the team will be able to improve next season and advance in the playoffs.
