Debbie Zimmerman Seeks Re-Election

Mills Custom Wood Floors

GladeValley.net has invited each candidate to answer the same set of questions to provide voters in The Town of Walkersville with some information to help them make a decision at the polls on September 14, 2015.

TELL ABOUT YOURSELF:

Born and Raised in the Walkersville area.   My family (husband, son, brother-in-law and nephew) operates Auburn Farms, Inc. located on Stauffer Road in Walkersville.  Auburn Farms is a family run dairy operation milking 250 cows twice a day.  My husband, John Zimmerman, Jr., is a member of Walkersville’s Planning and Zoning and is also President of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company (WVFC).   I have three children:  J.T., Jayme, and Jenna.  My full time job consists of keeping the grandchildren and bookkeeping for the family farm.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PUBLIC EXPERIENCES:

Have been a Commissioner for the Town of Walkersville for the past 19 years.   I have been Commissioner liaison of Parks also for 19 years.   This is a job that is NEVER finished!  2016 GVAA will move out of the house at Heritage Farm Park and into a new facility that will be built with Program Open Space monies.  Moving into the house will be the Boy Scouts who will be renovating the space.  There are always new proposals on the table for incorporation into our parks system.   The Parks Committee meets the first Wednesday’s of the month except the month of July.  It has been an honor to work with these dedicated people on the Committee.  I volunteer for the WVFC every year making pizzas at their annual carnival.  I also help Glade United Church of Christ at their annual Spring and Fall dinner patting oysters.

TOP ISSUES FACING WALKERSVILLE:

Our biggest issues facing the Town of Walkersville in the next three years will be the building of the Town’s new water plant and maintaining our low tax rate.  We have been a very conservative board.  I also hope to see a new library added in the town.

CRIME – DO YOU FEEL THIS IS AN ISSUE?:

Living out in the rural area of Walkersville, we do not see the crime some citizens talk about.   Mailbox bashing, trash thrown everywhere and speeding on Stauffer Road are about all that happen.

GROWTH; PLANNED GROWTH AND POSSIBLE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT:

With the addition of three new developments starting in 2016 I don’t see any new development in the near future.

EXPANSION OF 194; WHAT CHANGES, IF ANY, WILL YOU SUPPORT TO ADDRESS TRAFFIC:

I have always been told if you build larger roads development will follow.  That being said something HAS to be done at Sheetz and Rt. 194.
