County Council Seeks Individuals to Serve on Frederick County Charter Review Commission

The Frederick County Council is soliciting letters of interest and resumes from individuals to volunteer their time to serve on the new Frederick County Charter Review Commission.

The Charter Review Commission will be authorized to review the provisions of this Charter and make recommendations as to the necessity for deleting, adding, or amending its contents. The Charter Review Commission will have up to 12 months to prepare any Charter recommendations for submission to the County Council. Should the County Council propose any changes to the Charter, they would be subject to a referendum election by the voters of Frederick County. Any proposed charter amendment(s) are anticipated to go before the voters at the November 3, 2020, general election.

The Charter Review Commission shall be composed of seven registered voters of the County, including at least one member from each council district. No person who is appointed or elected to office shall be eligible to serve on the Commission.

The Charter Review Commission will review the Charter, research and evaluate issues or topics relating to the Frederick County Charter and will hold regular public meetings to gather input and suggestions for charter amendments from the public. All meetings will be open to the public.

Names of all interested applicants will be made available to the public. Resumes will be shared only with the members and staff of the Frederick County Council.

Persons having a desire to serve in this capacity must be residents and registered voters of Frederick County and have resided in the County for a minimum of six years.
