Candidates Forum
The Mount Pleasant Ruritan Club will host a candidates forum Tuesday, September 9th from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Candidates for County Council District 4 will participate in the forum and be available to meet the voters.
Jessica Fitzwater (D) and Bob Lawrence (R) face each other in November’s General Election to represent Frederick County’s newly formed District 4 on Frederick County’s first County Council.The County Council District 4 includes the eastern portions of the City of Frederick, makes a horseshoe around the Town of Walkersville from Biggs Ford Road to Stauffer Road with Discovery and Walkresville in District 5, includes the northern and western portions of Lake Linganore, and the northern parts of the Ballenger Creek area.
Jessica Fitzwater (D) lives in Fredericktowne Village with her husband. She is a music teacher at Oakdale Elementary School. She grew up in Smithsburg, but has lived in The City of Frederick for the past eight years. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Hood College. Mrs. Fitzwater performs with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra and Equinox Dance Company. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Frederick County Teachers Association, the Legislative Committee of the Maryland State Education Association, Board of Directors of the Frederick Arts Council, the Young Democrats of Frederick County, and the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Fitzwater’s top issues include “bringing back a culture of respect and open government, standing strong for our schools, responsible growth, and improving our quality of life.” She has been endorsed by Career Firefighters Association of Frederick County, IAFF Local 3666, the Sierra Club of Maryland’s Catoctin Group, and the Frederick County Teachers Association.
Bob Lawrence (R) lives in Crestwood Village with his wife. Mr. Lawrence retired from the United States Postal Service in 2010 where he was Postmaster of Adamstown for the last eight years of his career with the Postal Service. A veteran of the United States Army, he graduated from North Carolina State University after being honorably discharged in 1968. Mr. Lawrence currently serves as a member of the Budget and Finance Committee for Crestwood Village Board of Truestees, on which he previously served. He and his wife previously served on the Board of Directors as founding members of the Maryland Regional Ballet Company, the PTA organizations of South Frederick Elementary, West Frederick Middle, Gov. Thomas Johnson and Frederick High Schools. He was also a member of the Point of Rocks Ruritan Club. Mr. Lawrence supports increasing spending on public safety and traffic, reducing taxes and wasteful spending, providing home school students access to county resources, school choice, making government more efficient, and improving community input for land use decisions.
The Mount Pleasant Ruritan Club is near the intersection of Crum Road and MD 26 in Mount Pleasant.
