With the Walkersville Lions riding on the joy of their win on Saturday, the Lion’s advanced their record to 2-0 Monday night against the Brunswick Railroaders.
The high scoring game started twenty minutes into the first half when senior Wilson Yoingco put a penalty shot in the back of the net. Brunswick tied it 1-1 in the 52nd minute and then took the lead ten minutes later.
With time running out, freshman Spencer Shortt received a pass at midfield and ran down the right side line from the 20 yard line with the goalie coming out to approach him he gave the ball a chip over the goalie and watched as it crossed the line into the goal.
Junior Jack Gant had been on the field for almost the whole game when his time came. He was sitting in the box waiting for the throw in from Yoingco; the ball went to him and he received it and shot for far post. With four minutes remaining Walkersville had taken a 3-2 lead.
After the game Yoingco was asked how he felt about his team’s performance and he said “It was an overall great performance by Walkersville.”
Junior Alex Moore had six saves for Walkersville, only letting two goals in. Sophomore Garrett Allen says “Coach Conley is really focusing on defense this year, he wants to make it a point for us.”
