Big Shot Middle School Students Start Fresh in High School
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Darryl Warren
Oh, you were a big shot in middle school? Well, guess what? You’ll get to start fresh again. Welcome to high school freshies!
Relax, there’s no need to be nervous. These next four years of your life are going to be full of surprises you’d never imagined possible. If there’s one thing I love about a new school year, it is the new set of freshman. It takes me back to the days of my freshman year when zombies and screamo bands were the current trends.
Last week, I interviewed some freshman to get an idea on how their first week is going. So far, the popular highlights of their first week were lunch and the shortage of classes. When freshman Nathan Raynor was asked about the overall environment of high school, he said “I see people with tattoos and beards.” Another quote was shared by Melissa Mens and Savannah Crosson; “The tables have turned” said Melissa in response to being the new kids in school. I’ve always thought it was so ironic going into high school as a freshman after being an upperclassman in middle school.
Being a freshman can sometimes be a bit frightening and confusing. The best advice I can give to our newcomers is to relax and be yourself. You may not realize it now but these next four years of your life are going to be pretty crucial. Don’t be afraid to take risks; they might change your life for the better. Good luck!
