Softball Wins Against Brunswick With a Walk Off Three Run Homer

WHS Lions Pride Original Story:

On April 5th, 2018 the Walkersville Lions Softball Team took on the Brunswick Railroaders.

The game came down to the final inning with the score being 2-1 Brunswick after they took the lead early in the game. On the final at bat of the game, junior Kate Donaghue hit a three run walk off homerun to win the game at 4-2.  The win kept their undefeated record, improving to 3-0. Junior Lindsey Windsor pitched the full game and only allowed two hits.

“Brunswick is a really good team so it was an important game for us to win. The game was low scoring through most of the game and both teams were struggling at bat due to the good pitching and defense that each team was playing. It was close at the end but luckily Kate had a clutch home run that gave us the win,” said sophomore Destiny Simms.

“The end of the game was really exciting and it was awesome to win on a walk-off. Everyone was really nervous and worried but we were able to pull it off in the final inning and stay undefeated. We worked well as a team and we stayed positive throughout the game even though we were losing. Lindsey was pitching really well and everyone started batting well towards the end of the game when it mattered most,” said senior Olivia Blizard.

“The game was decided at the very end and it is difficult to play in games like that. Our team stayed together and kept focused and we were able to keep the game close all the way until the end when we eventually won off a home run. Brunswick was really good and beating them will give us a lot of hope in the upcoming games when we have to play difficult opponents like them,” said sophomore Gabby Collins.
