Senior Nina Crosby Wins National Gold Medal In Architecture Competition

WHS Lions Pride Original Story:

On Tuesday, senior Nina Crosby won the National ACT-SO Gold Medal for architecture for her design of the Obama Presidential Library. The competition had many participants from all around the country to compete for the gold medal. The goal of the ACT-SO competition is to mobilize the adult community for the promotion of academic and artistic excellence, recognize creative talent and academic achievement, and provide and assist students with the necessary skills to establish goals and acquire the confidence and training to make a successful contribution to society. “The prompt or goal was to create an original design for the proposed Barack Obama Presidential Library and Museum,” Crosby explained. “I started out with researching previous presidential libraries and the attributes of Barack Obama and his administration that I could incorporate into my design. After research I started the design process. I drew many sketches and created small models testing different variations of my design.”

Crosby started her project in January 2017 and presented her final design at the local competition during the first week of April. After the local competition, her design was brought to the National Competition, where she won the gold medal. “It was an amazing experience. I made so many talented friends from around the country at the national competition. Winning the National gold medal has opened up many doors for me to meet already established architects at different national architecture conferences,” Crosby reflected.
