Robert Garst

Robert Livingston Garst, 78 died peacefully on January 6, 2019 at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a heroic battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his family.

Bob Garst was born on November 26, 1940 in Frederick, MD growing up on the family dairy farm. He was the son of the late Rendall Bright Garst & Leida Irene Mercer Garst. He was the 3rd of 4 Garst sons, Raymond Rendall, John Henry & Allen Mercer who all still reside in the Frederick area.

Mr. Garst graduated from Walkersville High School, achieving awards in basketball, baseball and track. Bob was a local small business owner, opening the Garst Paint Center in 1965 and successfully operated it until his retirement 36 years later. In his younger years his hobbies reflect his competitive sportsman traits including hunting (Biggest Bucks in Maine), golf and fishing on his boat with his friends and son. Later his hobbies included woodworking & cooking. He and his wife enjoyed gardening and antiquing. Over the past year, Bob loved visiting the orchards in the Catoctin Mountains with his daughter.

On December 10, 1992 he married his friend and loving caregiver Patricia Irene Garst. He is also survived by his son, Charles Rendall (Randy) and wife Alison Joy Chiuchiolo Garst as well as his daughter Laura Elaine Garst Bewley and husband Edward James Bewley. In addition he was blessed by his six Grandchildren Aryn Townsley, Corey Garst and wife Brittany, Rachel Hundertmark, James Bewley, Molly Garst and fiance Andrew Paget and Daniel Bewley. He was also blessed with three Great Grandchildren, Jasmine Hundertmark Halstead, Adelyn Townsley and Sam Garst.

The family will receive visitors from 11AM to 1PM, on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street Frederick, MD 21701 with a celebration of Bob’s life immediately following. Finally Bob will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
