The connector road between Fountain Rock Road and Stauffer Court that runs behind the Sheetz will be opened during a ceremony Wednesday, August 22, 2018. The Town of Walkersville will officially open the road constructed with support from Sheetz at 6:30 p.m.
The road was originally to be built with funds from the Century Center industrial complex that was annexed into Walkersville years ago. That property since changed hands and has yet to be developed. When Sheetz came purchased the property behind its original property and asked to modify lots and expand its operations, the Planning Commission suggested construction of the road. Walkersville Burgess and Commissioners worked with Sheetz to pay for the road construction while they were building their facilities and infrastructure.
The Town has been working towards closing the left turn movements at Fountain Rock Road. Richard Winn Lane will allow drivers to use the signalized intersection of Stauffer Court and MD 194. Construction to close the left turn movements will be the next step.
The road is named in honor of former Burgess and Special Projects employee, Richard Winn. The Town will celebrat the road’s opening with a toast to Mr. Richard Winn!
