Passing of Past President and Life Member Marcia L. Baker Roberson

Marcia L. Baker Roberson, 60, of Walkersville, died on Sunday evening, December 11, 2016 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John David Roberson, who were married May 18, 1985.

Born January 16, 1956 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, she was the daughter of Nancy L. Delauter Baker, of Walkersville and the late Harry W. Baker Sr. Marcia was a 1974 graduate of Frederick High School, where she was active in the honor society and thespian club. After graduation, she attended Gettysburg College, until the sudden death of her father and then transferred to Hood College to resume her studies. She graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology; returned to Hood College in 1988 where she received her Master’s degree in Business Management; and later receiving her Master’s degree in Thanatology in 2012.

After graduating from FHS, Marcia went to work at Lonza, Inc, a Global Leader in Life Sciences, Walkersville, where she has been employed for over 42 years, currently as Quality Assurance Specialist.

She was a volunteer with Hospice of Frederick County for many years; and was formerly a longtime President and life member of the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company, and a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company. She was also active for many years with the Walkersville High School Drama Boosters, where both of her sons excelled in theater.

She loved scrapbooking as well as cruises and traveling, and especially had a passion for New York City, theater and Broadway plays. Marcia was an avid Kenny Chesney fan and followed his tours, anxiously awaiting his return to the area.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons, Zachary David Roberson, of Columbia, SC and Joel Kenneth Roberson, of York, Pa; two brothers, Harry W Baker and wife, Liz, of Walkersville and David Baker and wife, Lisa, of Thurmont; her mother and father-in-law, Rita and John Roberson, of Walkersville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of very special friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm on Thursday, December 15 at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 16th from Coffman Chapel of Hood College, 401 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, MD. Rev. Beth O' Malley, McHenry Dean of the Chapel, and the Rev. Albert K. Lane III, will officiate. Interment will be in Glade Cemetery, Walkersville.
