On Friday, the Walkersville Lions played against the Middletown Knights. With this being the last regular season matchup, the Lions were prepared to bring their A game in order to take home a perfect record for the second year in a row.

Junior Myles Roberts said, “We have been preparing all week for Middletown. We are ready for them and have to keep working hard so we can take home another win.”

Senior Christian Policelli added, “The seniors have grown up playing against Middletown for the past eight years. Since this is the senior’s last time playing them, we definitely want to make it a game to remember.”

The game started off strong for the boys. Senior Billy Gant passed to senior Josh Polce for the touchdown. Senior Noah Sadler converted the extra point, making the score 7-0.

Senior Jacob Wetzel began the second quarter with a 80 yard rushing touchdown. With five minutes left before halftime, senior Ty Littleton scored a 12 yard touchdown, making the score 21-0.

After Middletown punted the ball, the Walkersville Lions were on their own 14-yard line. Gant passed to Roberts on Middletown’s 26-yard line. Policelli ran the ball for a touchdown, making the final halftime score 28-0.

In the fourth quarter, Littleton had a 36-yard rushing touchdown. With Sadler converting the extra point, the final score of the game was 35-0.

Policelli said, “Everyone played great and fought hard to get the win that we were expecting. Also, we are the first team in Walkersville history to have two back-to-back undefeated regular seasons, which is another huge accomplishment from this game.”

Gant said, “We played really well as a team, going into the game we knew it was going to be a battle, but I’m proud of how our guys stuck it out and pulled through.”

Senior Ethan Parrish said, “Our defense definitely came to play. We haven’t had a shutout in a while so that was a confidence booster for us. This was probably the best game we’ve played against Middletown in our careers. I think it was a good way to end the regular season against our rival team since we were six.”

Polce added, “We’ve been playing against Middletown our whole lives and winning four straight varsity games against them is something that’s never been done before. Now it’s time to refocus for playoffs and get ready for the Oakdale team.”

Roberts added, “We need to keep the same intensity up for next week against Oakdale and throughout the rest of playoffs.”

With the win against their biggest rivals, the Walkersville Lions’ are 10-0 and advancing to play Oakdale next Friday in the first playoff game.
