Innovative Livable Frederick Draft Plan Unveiled

Noting that residential growth is one of the hottest topics in Frederick County, County Executive Jan Gardner today unveiled the draft Livable Frederick plan, a totally new approach to comprehensive planning that starts with a vision for Frederick County’s future and develops an action plan to get there. Based on a vision developed by community members, Livable Frederick answers how and where we want to grow. It incorporates survey results, demographics, and innovative technology.

“For the first time, we used interactive tools and computer simulations to look at scenarios and assumptions to see how different choices impacted our future, including our health, jobs, the environment, and transportation,” Executive Gardner said. “Livable Frederick will shape the future of our community.”

The draft comprehensive plan was approved by the Frederick County Planning Commission this week. That approval begins a 60-day public review period. To allow citizens time to understand the plan and to ask questions of staff, five open houses will be held across the county:

  • Brunswick High School – Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Oakdale High School – Thursday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Frederick High School – Monday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. (updated)
  • Urbana High School – Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m.
  • Catoctin High School – Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Livable Frederick on Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. Citizens are encouraged to have their voices heard.
