Frederick County Executive Gardner Leads Effort to Establish Detox Center

County Executive Jan Gardner today unveiled plans to encourage the establishment of a detoxification center in Frederick County, which would fill an unmet need in treatment and services for those struggling with addiction.

“Recovery is a long and difficult journey. We can help those on that journey by making treatment and services available in our community,” said Executive Gardner. “Every day, a person overdoses in Frederick County. We can’t delay. The time is now.”

Frederick County Government’s Procurement & Contracting office is seeking proposals for a detox center to be operated by either a non-profit or a public sector provider. Grants funds will be available to the selected provider to help with start-up expenses. Executive Gardner designated $500,000 in the fiscal year 2019 budget for the grant. In addition, the Frederick County Health Department may provide up to $210,000 in grants toward the establishment of a detox center. As an option, the County will make available separate space within the Frederick County Work Release Center as a potential location for the center, if a provider is interested in using the facility.

Interested providers are required to attend a pre-proposal conference on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Work Release Center on Marcies Choice Lane. The Grant Request for Proposals will be available online at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/Procurement.
