Community Foundation Provides Impact Grants Totaling $216,586

During its recent impact grants making cycle, The Community Foundation of Frederick County provided $216,586.23 to thirty-five area nonprofits dedicated to improving lives and enhancing Frederick County.

The grants are designed to assist local nonprofits with projects that have meaningful and direct impact on the residents of Frederick County. As a leading source of grant funding in Frederick County, the Community Foundation supports the arts, historic preservation, agriculture, health and human services, education, cultural understanding, animal welfare, scholarships, elder care, youth programs, civic causes, and more.

Impact Grant Funding was provided from the following funds:

  • The Bar Association of Frederick County Justice for All Fund:
    • $7,000.00 to Legal Aid Bureau for paralegal salary.
    • $7,000.00 to Mental Health Association of Frederick County for case manager salary.
  • The Big Brothers Big Sisters Frederick County Endowment Fund:
    • $1,689.63 to Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County for Flag Football and Healthy Lifestyles program.
  • The Brunswick Area Fund:
    • $2,195.81 to Brunswick Middle School PTO for student enrichment programs.
  • The C&O Canal Endowment Fund for Frederick County:
    • $4,299.19 to C&O Canal Trust for Canal Pride Days in Frederick County.
  • The Charles V. and Louise D. Main Endowment Fund:
    • $6,293.97 to Calvary United Methodist Church for preschool student tuition support.
    • $2,000.00 to Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County (SHIP) for New Horizons 2017 program.
  • The Dan Crozier Music Trust Fund:
    • $4,571.26 to Frederick County Public Schools for sheet music library purchases and middle school instrumental music library purchases.
    • $900.00 to Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra for sheet music purchases.
    • $1,000.00 to Frederick Children’s Chorus for sheet music purchases.
  • The Enhancing Agriculture Field of Interest Fund:
    • $602.73 to The Arc of Frederick County for plants and crops.
  • The Frederick County AIDS/HIV Education and Services Endowment Fund:
    • $1,493.94 to The Frederick Center for HIV home test kit distribution program.
  • The Frederick Keys Care Fund:
    • $1,000.00 to Advocates for Homeless Families for children’s activities.
    • $1,000.00 to Blessings in a Backpack for weekend backpacks of food for students served by Frederick County Public Schools Success Program.
    • $3,000.00 to Heartly House for family trauma group program.
    • $3,760.26 to Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County (SHIP) for New Horizons 2017 program.
  • The Health Fund for Frederick County Youth:
    • $1,655.57 to The Arc of Frederick County for client medical bill assistance.
    • $20,000.00 to Patty Pollatos Fund for children’s medical assistance.

  • The Historic Preservation Field of Interest Fund:
    • $511.02 to Weinberg Center for the Arts for 90th anniversary display and protective storage.
  • The Sharon I. Hooper Fund for Children:
    • $12,128.05 to Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County (SHIP) for New Horizons 2017 program.
    • $542.00 to The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center for art supplies.
    • $1,100.00 to Weinberg Center for the Arts for complimentary tickets to children with catastrophic health concerns.
  • The Immersion Active – Elder Hero Fund:
    • $948.35 to Weinberg Center for the Arts for complimentary tickets to Frederick County seniors.
  • The John L. and Lucille H. Ponton Charitable Fund:
    • $9,902.00 to Patty Pollatos Fund for health insurance premiums
  • The Parks Field of Interest Fund:
    • $667.71 to Friends of Baker Park for Culler Lake memorial bench restoration.
  • The Persons with Disabilities Field of Interest Fund:
    • $900.22 to The Arc of Frederick County for toileting chair.
  • The Secret Santa Fund:
    • $500.00 to The Federated Charities Corporation of Frederick for rapid response community assistance.
  • Community Foundation unrestricted funds provided the following grants:
    • $3,000.00 to Blessing in a Backpack for Pre-K student weekend food packages at Waverley Elementary.
    • $13,686.00 to Community Living for the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van.
    • $700.00 to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry for meat processing costs.
    • $16,271.99 to Frederick Community Action Agency for staff expenses for Frederick County Coalition for the Homeless, EKG machine for the clinic, and dishwasher for the Soup Kitchen.
    • $3,666.00 to Frederick County Parks and Recreation/The Children’s Museum of Rose Hill Manor for Field Trip Through Time program.
    • $4,685.81 to Frederick County Public Schools for middle school shared music library and Teamlink Incentive Program for FAST+ After School program at West Frederick Middle School.
    • $1,500.00 to Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra for Weinberg Center rental fees.
    • $10,197.72 to Frederick Rescue Mission for reach-in sliding door cooler at the Food Distribution Center, mattresses and covers for Changed Life Recovery Program dorm, and Faith House security system.
    • $5,000.00 to Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital for materials and membership fees for the Young Leaders program.
    • $5,120.00 to Girls on the Run of Frederick County for Title I Schools project.
    • $10,000.00 to Heartly House for SAFE Advocacy program.
    • $11,350.00 to Historical Society of Frederick County for server network and cabling for museum, library, and membership functions.
    • $4,000.00 to Lions Club of Frederick for eye care assistance to low-income individuals.
    • $2,810.00 to Main Street Housing for external access stairway replacement.
    • $4,500.00 to Maryland Ensemble Theatre for arts and education expansion to underserved youth.
    • $8,500.00 to Mission of Mercy for medication and medical supplies to those without insurance or those under-insured.
    • $4,278.00 to Second Chances Garage for automotive life and spring compressor.
    • $3,515.00 to The Arc of Frederick County for sexuality training for people with disabilities.
    • $3,275.00 to The Frederick Center for TransFamilies support group staff.
    • $2,939.00 to The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs for dehumidifier and electrical panel service for Family Resource Center.
    • $930.00 to The Wells House @ Gale Recovery for welcome kit supplies.
