School System Encourages Review of Draft Calendar

Frederick County Public Schools has posted a draft 2018-2019 academic calendar online for public review and comment. FCPS encourages the community to review calendar information at www.fcps.org/calendar and follow the instructions to submit comments through Monday, December 4. Calendar Committee members presented the draft to the Board of Education at its regular meeting on November 29. The Board is scheduled to take action at its regular meeting Wednesday, December 13. Laura Catherine (Wright) Hawes Morris

Mrs. Laura Catherine (Wright) Hawes Morris, 85, passed into the arms of Jesus on November 11, 2017. Born March 25, 1932 in Branchville, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Eloise Wright. She was married to Boyd K. Hawes of Front Royal, VA from 1950 – 1982, having three sons. She was the principal’s secretary of Walkersville High School for many years and was past president of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary. Scouting for Food Drive

Scouting for Food drive is Saturday, November 11, 2017.  Please support the Food Bank by participating.  Scouts left bags on front doors on November 4th, and will return to pick up filled bags for the Food Bank on Saturday, November 11. Please have bags outside by 9:00 am. Stephen Haines Welty

Stephen Haines Welty, 47, of Walkersville passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017. Steve is the husband of Kelley Phagan Welty and the father of Ethan and Owen. Steve grew up in Flossmoor, Illinois, and is a 1992 graduate of The College of William and Mary where he met Kelley. Steve went on to earn his masters degree in special education from Western Maryland College, now called McDaniel.
